The experience
The route starts with a panoramic drive through Tangier's residential neighborhoods and international-era districts, then heads to Spartel Cape: the point where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. From there you continue to the Caves of Hercules, a natural site carved into the coastal cliffs. The drive along the Atlantic coast to Asilah takes about forty-five minutes and follows the shoreline the whole way.
Once in Asilah, you walk through the casbah for an hour. Built by the Portuguese in the fifteenth century, it's a maze of narrow streets lined with murals. The town has become a cultural center and hosts annual music, arts and mural-painting festivals. You get free time to explore on your own before the group heads back to Tangier.
