The experience
How do you actually learn a craft that's been passed down for generations? By doing it yourself, in the space where an artisan works every day. This workshop puts you at a real loom in Chefchaouen, guided by someone who makes Djellabas and other woven pieces as their daily work. You'll start with the materials (local wool, how it's sourced, what makes it suitable for weaving), then move to the spinning wheel to understand how raw fiber becomes thread. The guide walks you through each step without rushing. You're not watching a demonstration, you're participating in the actual workflow.
The loom setup takes fifteen minutes, and then you spend the next half hour at the loom itself, learning basic weaving patterns as you work. Your hands do the work: threading, passing the shuttle, building the pattern row by row. By the time you finish (about 90 minutes from start to close) you'll have a completed woven piece that comes off the loom with you. The guide answers questions throughout and wraps up with a final Q&A so you can ask about techniques, materials, or the role weaving plays in Moroccan culture.
Coffee or tea is served during the workshop. Public transportation stops are nearby if you're getting around Chefchaouen without a car. Infants can attend if they sit on an adult's lap, and the physical demands are light enough for all fitness levels.

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

Yes. You finish the piece during the workshop and remove it from the loom yourself as part of the final steps, so it leaves with you.

No. The workshop covers the basics from the start: wool prep, spinning wheel use, loom setup, and foundational patterns. It's designed for people with no prior experience.
