The experience
Ouarzazate is the starting point. You meet your group at Kasbah Taourirt in the morning and travel by air-conditioned minibus through the Atlas foothills toward the Dades Gorges, where you spend the first night at a hotel surrounded by dramatic cliffs. The second day takes you to the Todra Gorges (Morocco's highest and most impressive gorge system), where you walk with a local guide and see the sheer rock walls up close. From there the route continues to Merzouga, and at sunset you mount a camel for the ride out to the desert camp across the Erg Chebbi dunes. (A quad bike option is available if you prefer not to ride.)
The camp itself is a private tent at Camp la Source or a similar property, and after dinner the evening belongs to live Berber music and the open sky. You ride out again at sunrise the next morning before heading back to the camp for breakfast. The third day is the return journey: the minibus takes you toward Marrakech with stops for photographs at scenic viewpoints. Lunch is available for purchase at a local restaurant along the way, and you arrive in Marrakech by evening.
