The experience
The route leaves Agadir heading south through Ouarzazate, stopping at the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou: a fortified village of clay buildings on a hillside that has stood for centuries and now sits on UNESCO's list. From there you visit the cinema studios where Hollywood Africa was filmed, then push on to Taourirt Kasbah before reaching the Dades valley for your first night at La Perle du Dades guesthouse.
Day two takes you through the Toudgha gorge and its canyons, then through Arfoud, where you can see fossils embedded in the rock. By afternoon you arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara's largest dunes. A camel trek carries you into the desert, and you sleep that night in a traditional camp: a low-key setup where the scale of the sand and the dark sky are the main events. Breakfast is provided before you head back to Agadir the next morning, traveling via Taznakht.
The tour runs with either a group or as a private booking, both with a live guide who speaks English, French, German or Arabic. Pickup from your Agadir hotel is included. Meals beyond breakfast, drinks and entrance tickets to the monuments and studios are your own cost.
