The experience
The tour departs Zagora at 1 pm and heads toward M'Hamid through the Tizi Anagame and Ben Selman Mountains, trading tarmac for off-road tracks, a stones river, and sand dunes over 2 hours. You'll stop at oases along the way before arriving at Erg Chigaga, the largest dunes in the region, before sunset. Here the 4x4 gives way to camels for a 1-hour trek across the sand as the light turns red, the best moment for photographs.
At the desert camp, you check into a private tent and settle in for the evening. Dinner is a traditional Berber meal, followed by a campfire with drum players and Berber music. Breakfast comes the next morning, and after sunrise (described as a moment not to miss). You leave Chigaga toward Zagora. The route includes a stop at Tamegroute village, where you visit a Koranic school and watch artisans at work in the green pottery process before returning to Zagora.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you want the full Sahara immersion: the off-road drive, the camel trek, and a night in the desert under stars. The overnight camp is what makes the sunrise and the second-day village visit possible. A day trip from Zagora would skip both.
