The experience

The drive from Kotor to Žabljak takes about two and a half hours, climbing into the mountain landscape with photo stops along the way. Once you arrive, you walk around Black Lake for roughly an hour on an easy path, with time afterward to rest at a café or take more photographs. The lake sits among the 18 glacier lakes that give Durmitor its name: a word believed to come from Celtic meaning "a mountain full of water."

From there, a 30-minute drive takes you to Đurđevića Tara Bridge, where you have 45 minutes to walk across or stand on the structure itself. The bridge spans 350 meters and rises 170 meters above the Tara River canyon, one of the deepest in the world and known for its clear water and dramatic rock walls. A bar sits near the bridge if you want refreshment, and for those interested, a zip line operates across the canyon (optional, at extra cost). Lunch at a traditional Montenegrin restaurant is available as an add-on before the return drive to your accommodation.

The tour runs nine hours total. Your guide speaks English and holds a license to lead in the national park. The entrance fee to Durmitor is included, along with travel insurance and all driving costs.
