The experience
The Brstanovica–Grab section is the river's most attractive run, and the 7km paddle takes about two to three hours on the water. You start at Grab ethno village and camp, where you suit up in neoprene, boots, helmet and safety belt, then ride to the put-in. A guide walks you through the basics before you push off into the rapids. The stretch breaks into two halves: the first half brings you through the opening rapids to a midway beach, where you climb out, dry off, swim if you want, and eat a snack on the bank. The second half is the real push: Celije, Borovi, Varda and the final rapids all come in sequence, and you finish back at Grab camp.
The river class shifts with the season, so Class II rapids in one month can become Class III or IV in another. That means the same 7km run is never quite the same twice. A midday lunch of local specialties cooked the traditional way waits on the coast after you return, and you have time to relax on the beach or jump from the rocks if the mood strikes. All equipment stays with the operator. You return it after lunch, and the guide handles the logistics of getting you back to the village.
