The experience
You start at Trojica pass and climb 4 kilometers uphill on road to Fort Vrmac, an old abandoned military fort sitting 480 meters above sea level. The fort is where you stop, look around, and catch your breath before the next push. From there, the route heads to a viewpoint overlooking Kotor bay, then turns onto gravel and hiking paths for the 6-kilometer ride to Saint Ilija peak at 760 meters. This peak is singular in the bay. It's the only place where you can see the whole thing at once.
The terrain shifts under your wheels as you climb: road becomes gravel, and the view expands with every meter of elevation. Your guide handles the navigation and pacing. At Saint Ilija, you stop again, take photos, and rest. Then comes the descent. You can retrace the same path back to Trojica pass, or ride all the way down to Tivat and return from there. The choice changes the total distance to either 20 kilometers or 30 kilometers.
This ride demands moderate physical fitness and real experience on gravel terrain. The operator flags that it's not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns, or pregnancy. Helmets, the bike itself, snacks, water, and a guide in English are all included. Bring water and be ready for sustained climbing before the payoff of that descent.
