The Experience

I’ll be honest, I nearly bailed at 7am when my alarm went off in Kotor — but the idea of paddling out to the Blue Cave before the boats got there was too good. Our guide, Marko, met us with this sleepy grin and coffee breath (I liked him instantly). The drive to Veslo campground took about forty minutes, mostly winding roads and sheep that don’t care about your schedule. I was a bit nervous about the whole “moderately difficult” part since I’m not exactly an athlete, but Marko sized up our group and just said, “We go slow, we see more.” That helped.

The Adriatic was glassy that early — no wind, just this weird quiet except for gulls and the sound of paddles dipping in.
