Step-by-step itinerary

Hike to Bobotov kuk peak

  • Start hike from Sedlo bend
  • Climb mild grassy and rocky trails
  • Pass through Surutka valley
  • Refresh at mountain water wells
  • Climb final rocky section to peak
  • Enjoy views of Škrčka lakes and Durmitor

The experience

The hike begins at Sedlo and climbs 820 meters to the summit, mixing grassy meadow trails with rocky scrambles. The landscape opens early (you'll see it from the start), and the Surutka valley appears as you approach, framing Bobotov kuk ahead. Mountain wells along the route offer drinking water to refill. The final 20 minutes turn technical: the track narrows and steepens, but it is secured with enough space to step safely and does not require climbing equipment.

From the peak, three summits form the highest rocky ridge of Durmitor, called Soa Heavenly, which means "The Underlay of the Sky." The view reaches in all directions. Below lie the Škrčka lakes (18 glacier lakes in total, known locally as "mountain eyes"), and the rest of Durmitor spreads across the horizon. The trail is available year-round depending on weather, and the guide speaks English.

Bring comfortable hiking shoes or climbing shoes, water and food. The operator provides hiking sticks and an air-conditioned vehicle for pickup and return. Travel insurance is included. The tour suits anyone with moderate fitness who is comfortable on steep, rocky ground and can handle the altitude gain.
