The tour includes unlimited mezcal, beer, tequila, authentic Mexican tacos, popcorn, and karaoke on board; you stop at a 500-year-old ancestral island for photos and a lunch break, then pass the replica Island of the Dolls on the return. The Experience

You've got an afternoon free in Mexico City and you want something that doesn't require planning. The boat leaves from the dock in Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the last remnants of the ancient Aztec canal system. A live guide in English or Spanish boards with you and spends the 2.5 hours explaining the history, culture and traditions of the canals while the boat moves through the floating gardens — the gardens themselves are real working farms built on islands, and they've been here for centuries.

The boat is covered and comes stocked: unlimited mezcal, beer, tequila, soft drinks, water, and a speaker for music and karaoke. You stop at a 500-year-old ancestral island where you can stretch, use the restroom, and take photos among the gardens. Lunch is authentic Mexican tacos, chicken or veggie, served on the island. On the way back, the boat passes the replica of the Island of the Dolls — a tribute to the original site in Xochimilco that became famous through Lady Gaga and Tim Burton. The party continues on board with dancing and drinks until you return to port. Restroom access is available both at the dock and on the island.

Everything is included in the price: all drinks, food, entry, the guide, the speaker and karaoke setup, even the popcorn and Mexican candies. Tips are never required. The only thing you need to know is that on weekend afternoons, congested canals sometimes make it impossible to reach the island, but the tour operator prepares regional food on board so the party doesn't stop. If you want to add the Axolotl Sanctuary to see the Mexican Axolotl, that costs extra and can be arranged at checkout.

Top questions

What exactly are the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco?

The Floating Gardens are real working farms built on islands in the ancient Aztec canal system of Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They've existed for centuries and are still cultivated today; you'll see them from the boat and walk among them during the island stop.

Is the Island of the Dolls something I should expect to see?

The tour passes a replica of the Island of the Dolls on the return journey — it's a tribute to the original site that became famous through Lady Gaga and Tim Burton. The replica is part of the route, though on congested weekend afternoons the canals may be too busy to reach it.

What drinks are actually included, and is there a limit?

All drinks are included with unlimited refills: mezcal, beer, tequila, soft drinks, and purified water. Alcoholic beverages are served only to travelers over 21; those under 21 receive non-alcoholic options instead.

Do I need to arrange transportation to the dock, or is pickup included?

The tour does not include hotel pickup. Public transportation options are available near the dock in Xochimilco, and you'll need to arrange your own way there.

What happens if the weather is bad or the canals are too crowded?

The boat is covered, so rain won't stop the tour. If the canals are congested (especially on weekend afternoons), it may be impossible to reach the island, but the tour operator prepares typical regional food on board so the experience continues without interruption.

Can I bring children or someone in a wheelchair?

Yes. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, and infants can sit on an adult's lap. The boat is wheelchair accessible, and staff will assist guests with wheelchairs or babies getting on and off. All guests are guaranteed a chair on the boat.
