The experience
The tour starts at Tlatelolco, the largest marketplace of the Aztec civilization, where a specialized guide walks you through the Plaza of Three Cultures: a single courtyard where pre-Hispanic temples, colonial churches and modern buildings stand side by side. This compressed view of Mexico's layered past sets up everything that follows. From there, the air-conditioned vehicle takes you to Teotihuacan, about an hour outside the city, where the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon rise from the high desert plateau. A guide leads you through the monumental structures, explains the astronomical and religious significance of the site, and takes you to the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl and the famous Avenue of the Dead. You then have free time to wander, photograph and absorb the scale of the place on your own terms.
After Teotihuacan, the tour includes a stop at a buffet or à la carte restaurant where you can eat (meals are not included in the price). There's also a brief exhibition of obsidian and maguey crafts. The final stop is the Basilica of Guadalupe, the second most visited religious sanctuary in the world after Saint Peter's in Rome. Your guide explains the events and the miraculous appearance of the Virgin, and you'll visit a religious articles store where you can purchase blessed items to take home. The whole day runs eight to nine hours, with hotel or meeting-point pickup and drop-off included.
