The experience

Espiritu Santo National Park sits as a cluster of six islands in the Sea of Cortes, and the tour takes you to one of them for snorkeling among sea lions. The guides who lead this are local people with more than 30 years working these waters, trained to explain the biology and geology of what you're seeing as you move through it. You get the snorkeling equipment, a wetsuit if you need one, and entry to the park. The boat leaves from La Paz and returns there at the end of the day.

The beaches themselves are unspoilt and the geological formations rise around them: rock formations shaped by time and tide. You'll spend time in the water with the sea lions, then time on the sand. The operator's own kitchen staff prepares lunch from fresh seafood, fruit and drinks, served as part of the day. Soda, water and snacks come throughout.

A moderate level of fitness helps you move in and out of the boat and handle the snorkeling itself. Infants can come if they sit on an adult's lap. The experience is built around what you do in the water and on the islands, not around a schedule of stops or a narrative arc. The day is shaped by the sea lions, the snorkeling and the meal.
