The experience

Five hours of diving at Cabo Pulmo means you're in the water where the Sea of Cortez holds one of the continent's rare living coral reefs. The instructors take you to the park's sites, where the water clarity lets you see what most tropical destinations hide: the soft and hard corals that build the reef, variegated sponges, and the spectrum of prismatic fish that live inside them. Sea turtles, manta rays, reef sharks, moray eels and octopi move through the same water you're breathing from your tank.

The dive happens in a marine park, which means the reef is protected and the life on it is dense. You need current dive certification to go. The operator's instructors speak English and Spanish and will brief you on the site before you descend. The five-hour window includes the boat time to Cabo Pulmo, the dives themselves, and the surface intervals between them. Bottled water and snacks are provided.
