The experience

You start at Marea Surf School, where the staff fit you with a board matched to your skill level, a leash and a rash guard. The walk to the beach takes five minutes. On the sand, you spend twenty minutes on the fundamentals: how to paddle, where to position yourself on the board, how to read the water and catch your first wave. The instruction is hands-on and covers what actually matters before you paddle out.

Then you're in the water for ninety minutes with your instructor, who stays with you and gives feedback as you practice. Small group sizes mean you get attention. The goal is to build confidence and skill, not to rush through a checklist. Whether you're starting from zero or working on technique, the lesson is built around where you are. Sayulita's waves are consistent and the water is warm, so the conditions are set up for learning.

The whole session takes two hours from start to finish. You leave with the board, leash and rash guard already on you, and the skills to keep going if you want to rent a board and paddle out again tomorrow.
