The experience
You start at Sams Club in Puerto Vallarta and drive 30 minutes into the mountains with your guide, leaving the city behind for a rural area most visitors never see. The hike itself is a 45-minute walk along a trail that crosses the river three times: the water stays shallow, around half a meter deep, so water shoes let you move through without slowing down. This stretch is known for birds, and your guide will point out what moves through the canopy and perches on the rocks.
The hot springs sit in a pocket of the mountains where the river runs alongside, and the view opens up to the peaks and forest on both sides. You can soak in the warm water for as long as you want, or wade into the cooler river next to it if the heat gets too much. There's no schedule pushing you out. The time is yours to sit, listen to the water and the birds, and let the day slow down.
Before heading back, your guide takes you to a small restaurant in the region that serves a typical Mexican breakfast: the kind of place locals eat, not tourists. Private transport gets you back to your hotel or meeting point, and the whole outing runs about five hours from start to finish. Coffee or hot chocolate, a sandwich and fruit come with the booking.
Is this one for you?The private transport from Sams Club in Puerto Vallarta means you don't need a car or local knowledge to reach the mountains. Your guide handles the drive and the route, so you can focus on the hike and the soak. This works well if you're staying in the city without a rental or if your first afternoon is free and you want to get out of the tourist zone.
