The Experience

You're picked up at your hotel in Cancun and driven to the dock, where you board a catamaran that holds up to 100 people. Check-in happens 30 minutes before departure, which gives you time to settle in before the boat pushes off toward Isla Mujeres. The crossing takes you across the Caribbean's clearest water — the kind that looks almost unreal when you're standing on the deck with a drink in hand. Once you reach the reef, you get snorkeling equipment and time in the water to see the fish that actually live there, not the ones in a tank somewhere.

After snorkeling, the boat heads to Playa Norte, the island's main beach, where you can swim in water so clear you can see your feet. Then comes the private beach club stop, where a buffet lunch is waiting (unless you booked the all-inclusive version, in which case you ate on the boat). You get free time to walk around Isla Mujeres' downtown area and pick up souvenirs if you want them, but there's no pressure — most people just sit by the water.
