Cast a line, then drop into the reefs

Fishing and snorkeling on Costa Maya combines three hours of sport fishing followed by one hour of reef snorkeling in the same half-day trip. You fish in the style you prefer, then move to a reef section to observe tropical fish and coral formations in clear water. The boat supplies all masks, fins, life jackets and fishing equipment; water, soda and beer come aboard, along with ice and a cooler to keep everything cold.

The Experience

The day starts on the water with three hours of sport fishing. You choose the style—trolling, bottom fishing, or whatever suits your preference—and the captain and crew manage the boat while you work the rod. The waters off Costa Maya hold excellent catches, and the crew keeps the action moving. After three hours, the boat heads to a reef section where the tropical fish and coral formations shift into view.

The snorkeling hour follows without a break. Masks, fins and life jackets are already on board, so you gear up and slip into water clear enough to see the reef structure and the fish moving through it. The crew watches from the boat and knows the section well. When the hour closes, you head back with the catch on ice and the salt still on your skin.

Everything rides on the boat: fishing rods, reels, bait and lures; masks and fins for snorkeling; life jackets for safety; a cooler stocked with ice, water, soda and six beers. The captain and crew handle rigging, navigation and the details that let you focus on the line and the reef. The trip runs four hours total and works for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy.

The waters off Costa Maya hold excellent catches, and the crew targets species that take well to sport fishing methods. The exact species depends on the season and the fishing style you choose, but the crew knows what is running and adjusts the approach to match.

Do I need to bring my own snorkeling gear?

No. Masks, fins and life jackets come on board, so you step onto the boat ready to fish and snorkel without packing equipment. The crew provides everything except your own comfort items like sunscreen or a rash guard.

Is this trip suitable for children?

Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller on the boat. The trip works for all fitness levels, and the crew is experienced with families. Confirm with the operator if your child has never fished or snorkeled before, so they can prepare.

Can I bring my service animal on the boat?

Service animals are allowed on the trip. Let the operator know when you book so they can make sure the boat is ready and the crew knows your animal will be aboard.
