The experience
The day starts at the foothills of Colima volcano, where you trek for about 1.5 hours at an elevation of 1,500 meters above sea level. Trekking poles are provided, and the pace suits all fitness levels. The views open across the slopes and into the surrounding landscape, with chances to spot wildlife and native vegetation as you climb.
After the trek, you head to the crater lake for about an hour of kayaking. The lake sits inside the volcano's caldera, and from the water you can see tropical birds (elegant trogans, coots, muscovy ducks, blue herons, night herons), and the trees they nest in. Kayaks and all paddling gear are included. The guide stays with the group throughout both sections.
Round-trip transport from a central meeting point is arranged for you, and the activity operates in all weather, so dress for conditions. Bring a passport for check-in. Children under 4 can join only if two adults are paying for the activity.
