The Experience

The day starts with a swim at Cenote Ik Kil, where you cool off in crystal-clear water before eating a buffet of traditional Yucatan dishes at the site's restaurant. The cenote sits open to the sky, ringed by limestone walls that drop straight into the water—a place the Maya considered sacred. After you eat and swim, the guide leads you to Chichen Itza itself.

At Chichen Itza, a live guide walks you through the Main Esplanade, the Observatory, the Sacred Cenote, the Ball Game court and the Temple of the Thousand Columns, explaining the history and architecture as you move between them. You get free time afterward to take photographs or wander the site on your own before heading to the next stop.

Cenote Suytun comes next. This one sits underground, accessed by a stone platform that juts into the water; a natural opening in the vault above sends a shaft of light down into the cenote, illuminating the interior. You have free time to swim here as well. The restaurant at Suytun serves drinks (not included in the tour price, though drinks on the bus are). The final stop is Valladolid, where you walk the colonial streets, visit the Church of San Servacio built by the Spanish, photograph the main plaza and browse local handicrafts before the drive back.
