You’ll sail past Cabo’s famous Arch with local guides who know every story behind it, snack on fresh guacamole and quesadillas from the open bar, then swim or paddleboard near Medano Beach while music plays from your own playlist. Expect laughter, sun on your face, and moments you’ll want to replay later.
Somebody hands me a cold drink before I’ve even found my sea legs. The Papillon Yachts crew is all smiles — I think one of them, Luis, jokes that he’s seen people dance before they’ve had breakfast out here. There’s music (our playlist, which feels oddly personal drifting over the water), and the boat glides out from Cabo San Lucas marina so quietly I barely notice we’re moving at first. The salt air hits different than it does back home — sharper somehow, mixed with sunscreen and guacamole. That’s not poetic, just true.
We cruise past Medano Beach where people wave from jet skis and sunburnt kids shout in Spanish. Our guide points out pelicans bobbing near fishing boats, and then suddenly we’re staring up at the Arch of Cabo San Lucas — El Arco — with sea lions barking like they own the place. I try to take a selfie but end up catching mostly my hair in the wind (classic). Luis laughs and offers to take one for us. It’s loud here, but not in an annoying way — more like everyone’s just happy to be out on the water.
The open bar is dangerously generous. Quesadillas are warm and gooey; there’s pico de gallo that tastes like someone actually made it this morning (maybe they did?). We anchor for a while so some of us can try paddleboarding — which looks easier than it is when you’ve had two margaritas already. The water off Medano Beach is clear enough to see your toes wiggling under the surface. I float on one of those mats and stare up at seagulls circling overhead until I almost doze off. Didn’t expect to feel so relaxed after all that noise in town earlier.
I still think about that feeling — sun-warmed skin, salt drying on my arms, laughter echoing across the deck as somebody tries (and fails) to pronounce “quesadilla” properly. If you ever get a chance for a private sailboat tour in Cabo San Lucas with these folks… don’t overthink it. Just go.
