The Experience

“They say if you squint, you’ll see the sleeping sea lion on the rocks,” our boat captain grinned as he pointed out toward Land’s End. I tried, but honestly, the sun was in my eyes and all I caught was a blur of brown fur and a lot of noisy barking—still counts. The water around Cabo San Lucas was that deep blue you only get in postcards, with pelicans skimming so close to the surface I worried for their wings.
