The experience

The boat leaves Santa Cruz Bay with your guide and Captain Moses, who navigates "the Lucero" past nine of Huatulco's most remote bays over eight to nine hours. Each stop is yours to shape: stay longer at a bay that calls to you, skip ahead to another, or linger for lunch and drinks at Maguey Bay (at your own cost). Órgano Bay opens the route: a nearly virgin beach where the captain walks you through the region's history and how each bay earned its name. From there, the itinerary flows through Maguey's calm green waters and beachfront restaurants, then into the protected bays of Cacaluta, Chachacual and Riscalillo, each one rated among the clearest in the world.

Snorkeling equipment is yours to use at any stop, and sports fishing is included with no additional fee. The boat carries rods and tackle ready to deploy. Dolphins, whales and sea turtles migrate through these waters seasonally and are common sightings, though not guaranteed. San Agustin arrives last, famous for crystalline water and untouched sand, and the return to Santa Cruz can stretch into the evening if you want to catch the sunset or watch the migration.

Bottled water and soda come aboard. Any other food or drinks you order at the bays settle up with the vendor. The tour runs in English or Spanish, and the boat accommodates infants on an adult's lap and service animals.

How many bays do we actually stop at on this tour?

The tour visits nine bays (Chahué, Tangolunda, Conejos, Órgano, Maguey, Cacaluta, Chachacual, Riscalillo and San Agustin), but you choose which ones to explore and how long to stay at each, so the exact stops depend on your interests.
