experience

What’s the experience like?

The morning air felt a bit salty as we stepped onto the private deck, wetsuits half-zipped and gear clinking. Our dive guide, Luis, gave us a quick rundown—he’s been diving these waters for years and knows every nook around Roqueta Island. The boat ride out took maybe fifteen minutes, just enough time to spot pelicans skimming the surface and catch that first whiff of ocean mixed with sunscreen.

First dive site: a labyrinth of rocks and soft coral just off the island’s southern tip. Visibility was decent—maybe 15 meters—and right away I spotted a curious puffer fish hovering by a ledge. Luis pointed out a tiny seahorse clinging to sea grass (honestly, I’d have missed it). We drifted past schools of boxfish and even caught a glimpse of an eagle ray gliding by. If you’re here between December and February, keep an ear out; sometimes you can hear distant whale songs underwater.

Back on the boat, we had a quick break—cold drinks and some sweet bread from a local bakery (the kind that leaves sugar on your fingers). Second tank went in near an old wreck closer to the harbor. The current picked up but nothing too wild; just enough to make things interesting. Moray eels peeked out from crevices, and I swear I saw an octopus squeeze itself into a crack smaller than my fist. The whole vibe is relaxed but professional—the crew checks everyone’s certification before heading out and keeps an eye on conditions.
