The experience

The day starts with hotel pickup and a drive to Grand Bassin, a crater lake in the Savanne district where a 33-meter Shiva statue stands at the entrance. From there you head to Valles des Couleur Nature Park, spread across 450 acres, where the main draw is the ziplining (the longest zipline in the Indian Ocean) plus quad biking, a Nepalese Bridge crossing, and a luge kart run. The colored earth formations the park is named for run through the property in bands and domes, a geological feature unique to this part of the world.

La Vanille Crocodile Park comes next, a 3.5-hectare reserve where you walk among over 1,000 giant Aldabra tortoises and encounter 2,000 Nile crocodiles. The park also holds an insectarium with more than 26,000 specimens, an aquarium, and a fossil museum, plus monkeys, iguanas, bats, deer, geckos and eels. The afternoon shifts to the coast: Rivière des Galets Beach, known for its polished pebbles and large waves; Maconde Viewpoint on a rocky cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean; and Gris Gris Cape at the island's southern tip, where waves break with force against the rocks. The day ends at Le Morne Beach on the west coast, where you can swim in the crystal-clear water before the return transfer to your hotel.

The guide speaks English or French and travels with you throughout. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and bottled water is provided. Because the itinerary covers multiple regions of the island, much of the day involves scenic driving along Mauritius' southern and western routes, with pauses at each stop rather than extended time at any single site.
