The experience
How do you fit the south coast's best stops into one day without driving yourself? This tour picks you up at your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and moves through seven viewpoints, anchored by two tasting experiences that give the day its shape. You start at Bois Cheri Tea Plantation, where you walk the rows tea pickers have worked for generations and taste the different varieties the factory produces while looking out over the plantation. The route then carries you to Le Domaine de St Aubin, a colonial-era rum distillery where a bartender walks you through making a signature cocktail and you taste several varieties of rum the estate manufactures.
Between the two tastings and after them, the tour stops at Gris Gris Cape for fresh air and the Indian Ocean view, Ganga Talao (Mauritius's sacred Hindu site ringed by colorful temples), and then into Black River Gorges National Park. There you see Alexandra Falls and the cloud forest of Mt. Cocotte rising 771 meters, then move to the Gorges Viewpoint overlooking the ancient primeval forest. A three-course Mauritian lunch (vegetarian and halal options available) happens in the authentic village of Chamarel, followed by the Chamarel Viewpoint and finally Maconde Viewpoint, perched on a rocky cliff above the coast. Bottled water travels with you throughout. The driver-guide handles all entry fees and the route itself.
The full day runs 8 hours from pickup to drop-off at your hotel. Children from age 2 can join. The rum tasting is reserved for guests 17 and older. Pregnant travelers are not recommended for this tour. The guide speaks English and French.
