Step-by-step itinerary
Boat trip exploring Robert Bay
- Discover Chancel Ilets and iguanas
- Explore slave village ruins and aquaculture farm
- Observe mangrove flora and fauna
- Visit white trapeze sand strip
- Swim and taste local snack
The experience
Four hours on the water takes you from Le Robert into Robert Bay, where the boat moves between shallow white-sand bottoms and mangrove channels. The Chancel Ilets sit at the center of this route: you'll see the endemic iguanas that live on the rocks and walk through the ruins of a slave village that stands on the island. The mangroves themselves are the ecosystem: dense, tangled, full of fish and birds adapted to the brackish water where the bay meets the land.
The boat stops at the white trapeze, a strip of white sand caught between two islets with a clear view across to the Werewolf islet. You swim here, and the crew brings out a small local snack (accras and other island fare), so you eat on the sand or back on deck. The Robert aquaculture farm sits nearby, part of the same working landscape you're moving through, not a separate attraction.
A live guide in English, French or German narrates the route and explains what you're seeing in the mangroves and at each stop. Children from age 3 travel with adults. Infants can ride in a pram or stroller if needed. Public transport reaches the departure point in Le Robert, and the boat handles the rest.
