Drive rugged backroads and pause for a swim at Comino’s hidden cave beaches

A self-drive e-jeep tour of Gozo departing from Malta with hotel pickup and boat crossing, where you pilot your own vehicle through rugged valleys and sleepy villages to reach Sannap Cliffs, Xlendi, the Citadel, Ggantija Temples, Ta Pinu Sanctuary and the ancient salt pans: sites inaccessible by public transport or hop-on buses. The tour runs seven hours and includes an authentic light Gozitan lunch, ferry tickets, an experienced leader guiding the convoy, and return transfers. You choose between self-driving independently or following the leader. Gratuities and return transport are optional at checkout.

The experience

The e-jeep puts you in control of the route instead of watching it pass from a bus window. You drive a fully electric vehicle that seats up to three passengers plus yourself, moving through a convoy led by a tour leader who knows which backroads connect the island's hidden corners. The boat crossing from Malta to Gozo happens first, weather permitting, and on the return you'll pass through Comino's caves carved into limestone. In summer, a swim stop is offered. The whole day runs seven hours before you're back at your original pickup point.

The stops themselves are the draw. Sannap Cliffs sit at one of Gozo's highest points and are unreachable except on foot or by private vehicle: the views stretch to Malta and Comino. Xlendi is the island's most photographed bay, and you stop at the Belvedere overlooking the tower and water below. Fontana is a fishing village of about 1,000 people, a short walk from Victoria's old town. The Citadel rises from Victoria's heart, a fortified city inhabited since Neolithic times and later a refuge from Barbary pirates. The medieval architecture layers centuries of occupation into its stone. Ggantija Temples are a UNESCO World Heritage site predating the Egyptian pyramids: entry is separate from the tour price. Ta Pinu Sanctuary sits in the island's scenic interior, a pilgrimage site of spiritual weight. The salt pans stretch in terraced fields along the coast, their white crystals catching light the way they have for centuries.

Lunch is a light traditional Gozitan meal with a glass of water, served partway through the day. The leader speaks English, Italian, French, German and three additional languages. You can book as a fully independent driver or choose to follow the leader's route: both options move at the same pace and visit the same sites. Pickup happens from your Malta or Gozo hotel or the closest designated point by minivan, and the return follows the same route.

Is this one for you?Choose the self-drive option if you want to navigate the backroads at your own pace. Choose to follow the leader if you'd rather focus on the stops and let someone else handle the route. Either way, the e-jeep is the only way to reach these sites: public transport and bus tours don't go to Sannap Cliffs, the remote salt pans, or the smaller villages tucked into Gozo's interior.
