You’ll feel your nerves melt into laughter as you try flyboarding over Barcelona’s blue water with an expert instructor guiding you by headset. From your first splashy attempt to those seconds of real flight above the waves, every moment is hands-on and surprisingly fun — even if you’re nervous at first.
I almost chickened out when I saw the flyboard for the first time — it looked like something out of a sci-fi movie, not something I’d actually strap onto my feet. The wetsuit was a bit tighter than expected (should’ve skipped that extra croissant), and my hair was already sticking to my forehead before we even hit the water. Our instructor, Jordi, grinned and said, “Don’t worry, everyone looks ridiculous at first.” That helped.
The briefing was quick but detailed — lots of hand gestures and jokes about not flying off to Mallorca by accident. Standing on the dock, you could smell sunscreen mixing with the salty breeze, and there were gulls arguing overhead. Once I had the helmet on (with this little mic so Jordi could talk me through it), it felt weirdly reassuring. He stayed right by me as we wobbled into deeper water. When the jets kicked in for real, I shot up way faster than expected — my stomach did a somersault and I let out this totally undignified yelp. Jordi just laughed in my ear and told me to bend my knees more.
I didn’t expect to get the hang of flyboarding so quickly. After a few awkward splashes (and one spectacular faceplant), suddenly I was hovering above the water, toes flexing against the board. The city skyline behind me looked unreal from up there — like Barcelona had shrunk or maybe I’d grown taller. There was this moment where everything went quiet except for the rush of water below and Jordi’s calm voice guiding me through a wobbly turn. Honestly, I still think about that view.
Your session comes with a 15-minute safety briefing led by your personal instructor, all necessary safety gear including wetsuit (from shorty to full suit), life jacket, helmet with real-time communication, plus 20 minutes of actual flyboarding time using a jet ski-powered board — everything you need is provided on site.
