Whitewater rafting and canopy walk

  • Briefing on safety and water confidence
  • Experience walking on canopy walkway
  • Enjoy whitewater rafting on Sedim River

The experience

You arrive at Sungai Sedim, a nature recreational park built over 14 months and completed in 2005. Before the raft launches, experts brief you on safety and test your water confidence in the water. Once you're ready, your raft guide takes you into the rapids. The Sedim River is famous for its treetop canopy walkway and has hosted international rafting competitions. The course is accredited at that level, so the gushing water and turbulence are real, but the guides are skilled navigators who know every drop.

The rapids have names: Salak Drop, Triple Rapid, Kasai Drop, Wall Drop, Lower Head Dam, Kawah Rapid, Jelutong Rapid, Rodeo Rapid, Slip Lip Rapid, Cyclone Hole. Which ones you hit depends on your choice. Rapid Rafting covers 2.5 km at Level 1–3 difficulty. Rapid Extreme runs 6 km and pushes to Level 5. If you pick Rafting 2.5 km plus Sireh Cave, you raft the shorter course and then walk into the cave with a guide to see geological formations, fossils and mineral deposits that draw nature lovers to explore it. The park itself sits in the landscape where moderate walking and trekking footwear matter. Bring insect repellent, extra water and appropriate clothing for water activities. Contact lenses can slip during rapids, so an eyeglass strap is recommended. The best time to go is October through January. April to July is not recommended.

Hotel pickup from Penang is included, and your driver speaks basic English. The Extreme option includes snacks and lunch. The other two options do not include meals. Rafting equipment is provided. Plan for a full day: the experience runs 6 to 10 hours depending on which course you choose and how the river flows that day.
