The experience
Pickup happens at 6am from your Kuala Lumpur hotel, and the drive takes you to a country town for Malaysian breakfast before the jungle begins. The trek itself runs two hours on fairly flat terrain mixed with gentle hills, passing through river systems and bamboo thickets as the landscape opens up. You're moving through rainforest the whole way, crossing streams and scrambling over boulders, until the multi-tiered waterfall appears.
Once you reach it, you stay for two hours. This is the core of the day: you swim in the jungle pools below the falls, walk into the water behind the thunderous curtain itself, and sit in the spray while eating a picnic lunch. There's no schedule pushing you through: the guide wants you to spend as much time here as the day allows. After lunch, the descent is unhurried, with stops at other picturesque spots for more swimming and sun before you head back to the B&B to shower and change.
Dinner at a local diner closes the day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, bottled water and snacks are all included, along with the air-conditioned minivan transport and the English-speaking guide. A minimum of two people per booking is required. The maximum is ten.
