The experience

The day starts at Eagle Square, where a 12-meter eagle statue stands as the symbol of Langkawi. The name itself comes from the Malay word for the red-backed sea eagle that flies over the island. From there, the guide drives you to Oriental Village at the foothills of Machinchang mountain, about 20 minutes from the airport. This is where the cable car begins: a 15-minute ride that climbs 2,150 meters over the rainforest canopy, passing 550-million-year-old rock formations as the mountain range opens beneath you.

At the top, you step onto the Langkawi Sky Bridge, a 410-foot span suspended between two peaks at 2,300 feet above sea level. Sections of the bridge have transparent glass floors. The adrenaline comes from looking straight down through them at the forest and Telaga Tujuh waterfalls below. From the bridge, you can see across the rainforest to the coast. The newest addition is the Eagle's Nest Skywalk, a 38-meter glass-floored deck shaped like an eagle's entrance, built to be the longest free-walking sky deck in the world.

The route also takes in Tanjung Rhu beach on the northeastern shore, lined with casuarina trees and known for its calm water and local atmosphere, and the Langkawi Craft Complex: a 32-acre site with heritage museums, traditional craft demonstrations, and the Dataran Tangga Seribu (Thousand Staircase Square) for photos.
