The experience
Your driver holds a placard with your name at the airport arrival hall and waits up to 90 minutes from your flight landing. Once you meet, you travel by air-conditioned minivan along Ambassador Row toward the city center. The first stop is Royal Selangor, the world's largest and most modern pewter factory, where you watch casting, filing, polishing, soldering, hammering and engraving happen on the workshop floor: the craftspeople work while you observe, and the factory explains each step.
From there you move to a batik factory to see how the traditional cloth is designed and printed by hand. The final stop is Batu Caves, a limestone shrine with three main caverns carved into the hillside. A flight of 272 steps leads up to the temple cave dedicated to Lord Murugah, a Hindu deity. Another cavern, the museum cave, holds images and murals from Hindu scripture. After Batu Caves, your driver takes you to your Kuala Lumpur City hotel and the tour ends.
The whole journey, transfer plus three stops, takes around 4.5 hours. Traffic and time of day affect the exact duration. Book your start time at least one hour after your flight lands to allow for immigration clearance. Each traveler can bring up to two suitcases and one carry-on bag. Oversized luggage like surfboards or bikes may need advance approval.
