The experience

The tour picks you up directly from KLIA-1 or KLIA-2 and fills a layover with the city's main sights in one loop. You'll climb the 272 steps to Batu Caves' main temple set inside a limestone outcrop, then move on to the Petronas Twin Towers at 451.9 meters tall, where you visit the Skybridge on the 41st floor and the viewing deck on the 86th. The National Monument comes next: a bronze sculpture by Felix de Weldon (who also sculpted the Iwo Jima memorial) honoring those lost in Malaysia's struggle for independence.

From there the route covers the King's Palace with its 22 domes, the National Mosque with its star-shaped dome and 73-meter minaret, and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, a Moorish landmark facing Merdeka Square. The spot where Malaysia's flag was first raised at midnight on August 31, 1957. You'll also see the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, another Moorish structure, and stop at local workshops to learn about Malaysian batik and handicrafts. The whole loop runs about six hours in an air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver handling navigation.

At the end, you decide: return to the airport for your next flight or drop at a Kuala Lumpur hotel. All taxes and fees are included. Entrance fees to the Petronas Towers and KL Tower are separate, as is any food or drink.
