The experience

The tour runs four hours total and covers distance by jet ski, so you're moving most of the time rather than anchored at one spot. A 30-minute ride takes you through the Mangrove River without a stop. The point is to feel the passage itself, gliding under the canopy with fresh air and the sound of the engine. Then comes a 10-minute pass by Tuba Island, where you see the limestone cliffs and dense rainforest from the water but don't land. Eagle Square, Langkawi's landmark eagle sculpture overlooking the bay, gets a 10-minute stop for photos and a look around.

The swimming happens at two places. Pregnant Maiden Lake, also called Tasik Dayang Bunting, sits on Dayang Bunting Island and is the largest freshwater lake in Langkawi, ringed by rainforest and named for its shape when seen from above. You'll have time to swim here and can rent a paddle boat if you want. Later, Beras Basah Island (the name means Wet Rice Island) offers clear water for a final swim with views across the Andaman Sea. Between these stops, you cruise past Singa Besar Island, Big Lion Island, where the wildlife and limestone formations are the draw. This is where you might spot eagles in their habitat.

Your guide speaks English or Malay and leads the group. Pickup from your hotel is included, as are snorkeling mask, life jacket, waterproof bag and beach shoes.
