The Experience
The first thing I noticed was the salty breeze—mixed with a hint of coffee from the waiting area below. We met our pilot just outside the office, where kids were glued to a Mario Kart game while their parents geared up. The staff switched easily between Arabic and French, making everyone feel at home. Lockers for your stuff, WiFi if you need it, and even Netflix for anyone waiting their turn—it’s all there.
Once we were strapped in, my nerves faded fast. The takeoff was smoother than I expected. Suddenly, we were gliding high above Jounieh, rooftops shrinking beneath us. Our guide pointed out Our Lady of Harissa—her white statue gleaming in the sun—and then we drifted over the blue stretch of the Mediterranean. You could hear distant church bells and smell grilled meat from a street vendor far below. The whole flight lasted about 15 minutes (sometimes a bit longer if the wind’s right), but honestly, time felt different up there.
