The Experience
You get picked up and driven through the Nahr El-Khab valley toward Jeita Grotto, a finalist in the competition for the new seven wonders of the world. The grotto is a cave system carved into the Mount Lebanon mountain range, made up of two enormous caverns filled with thousands of stalactites and stalagmites. You walk through the upper cave, then take a short boat ride across the lake that covers the floor of the lower cave—the water is still enough to mirror the formations above.
From there, the route heads to Harissa and the hilltop statue of Our Lady of Lebanon. You ride the cable car up to the base of the 8.5-metre statue, which stands high above the city. The views stretch across the coast and sea toward Jounieh Bay. The cable car is optional, so if you prefer to stay at the base, that works too.
The final stop is Byblos, an ancient city with a history stretching back at least seven thousand years. You visit the 12th-century Crusader Castle, which Saladin himself once captured, and have time to walk the old souk and see the medieval churches the Crusaders built. Your guide shares the hidden stories of each site throughout the day. Bottled water and snacks are provided; if you book the lunch option, a traditional Lebanese meal is included.
