The experience

The day splits between two cities, each with a different pull. Tripoli holds forty-five registered historical buildings, many from the 14th century, but the real draw is the souks and khans: a network of workshops where specific trades cluster together. You walk through spaces where the work itself has barely shifted in five hundred years: tailors at their tables, jewelers at their benches, perfumers and soap-makers in their stalls. The guide narrates what you're seeing, but the trades speak for themselves.

Byblos is the second half, a modern town built around an ancient one. The old harbor sits sheltered by a rocky headland, and nearby are the excavated remains of the ancient city itself, a Crusader castle and church, and the old market area. The contrast between sophistication and tradition the operator mentions is visible in how the town sits: layers of different eras occupying the same ground.

Transport is private and sized to your group: solo travelers get a car, families or small groups get a van, larger parties get a coach. The vehicle is air-conditioned. Hotel pickup is included, and the guide speaks your language: English, French or Arabic. Public transportation options exist nearby if you prefer to move independently between stops, though most travelers stay with the vehicle and guide for the full nine hours.

Is this one for you? This is a guided tour with a live guide leading the stops, so you're not navigating or researching on your own. The guide handles the route and the context. Private transport means your group travels together without joining strangers, and the vehicle stays with you all day rather than dropping you off to find your own way between sites. Choose this if you want the history and the trades explained as you walk, and prefer not to arrange transport or figure out which souks and khans are worth your time.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, French and Arabic.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (10 to 17 years); Child (3 to 9 years). Under 3: they can't be included in the booking.

What exactly are the khans in Tripoli that the tour visits?

Khans are traditional caravanserais or trading buildings that cluster around the souks in Tripoli. They house workshops and stalls where specific trades (tailors, jewelers, perfumers, tanners and soap-makers) work in the same spaces their predecessors occupied for centuries.

Can I visit Byblos and Tripoli in one day, or do I need separate trips?

This tour combines both cities in a single nine-hour day, moving from Tripoli's souks and khans to Byblos's Crusader castle, ancient excavated city and old harbor in one outing with a guide and private transport.

What's the difference between the ancient city remains and the Crusader castle in Byblos?

Byblos has both: excavated remains of the ancient city that predate the Crusader era, plus a separate Crusader castle and church built much later. The tour visits both, so you see multiple layers of the town's history in one stop.

Do I need to arrange my own transport, or is it included?

Transport is included: a private air-conditioned vehicle sized to your group picks you up from your hotel and stays with you for the full nine hours. Public transportation options are available nearby if you prefer to move independently at any point.
