The experience

You're picked up from your hotel in Vang Vieng and taken to the zipline site, where staff run you through safety training before you clip in. The zipline itself spans the green forest and river. You're airborne, not watching from the ground. After landing, you move to Tham Chang Underwater Cave, where you sit on a tire and use fixed ropes to pull yourself through the submerged passage. It's a short, guided float through the water-filled cavern, followed by time in the dry Tham Chang Cave to explore on foot.

Lunch happens mid-day. Then you head to the Nam Song River for kayaking instruction before paddling downstream. The river is wide and flat here, lined with green trees on both banks. You'll glide through small rapids and see fish and birds as you go. The paddling is steady rather than technical: the guide controls the pace and points out the landscape. If heavy rain falls between mid-June and mid-September, the kayak portion switches to a long-tail boat instead, so the day still happens. You're back at your hotel by late afternoon.

The full day runs five to six hours of activity. Weight limit for the zipline is 100 kg.
