The experience

The day starts with a pickup from your hotel in central Vientiane between 7:45 and 8:15 am. Your first stop is a local fresh market where vendors sell the ingredients Lao cooks use every day: the greens, the herbs, the fish and chilies that shape the food you'll eat at lunch. It is a working market, not a tourist version, so you see how the city actually feeds itself. From there you move to Patuxay, the Victory Monument, where you climb for a view across the whole city laid out below.

Pha That Luang comes next: the most sacred stupa in Laos, a gold-covered structure that sits at the center of the country's spiritual life. The COPE Centre, a visitor space built around Laos' recent history and the resilience of its people, follows in the afternoon. Then you reach Wat Si Muang, a temple where locals come to pray and make wishes. After that, your guide brings you back to your hotel. The route includes bottled water throughout the day and a proper Lao lunch, cooked in the local style.

You can book this tour with either a tuk tuk or a car. Both options include the same guide, stops and lunch. The tuk tuk is the open-air choice. The car offers more shelter and works better if you're traveling with luggage or prefer a quieter ride. Either way, the guide speaks English and the itinerary stays the same. Groups max out at 12 people, so the pace stays manageable and you're not herded through each stop.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 12).

What is the local market part of the tour actually like?

The local fresh market is where Vientiane residents buy their daily ingredients: produce, herbs, fish and spices. Your guide walks you through it to show you what goes into Lao cooking and how the market operates on a normal morning, not as a staged attraction.

Can I climb Patuxay Monument or just look at it from outside?

Patuxay is a climb. You go up inside the monument to reach a viewing platform at the top where you can see across the city in all directions.

What is Pha That Luang and why is it on the tour?

Pha That Luang is Laos' most sacred stupa: a gold-covered religious structure at the spiritual center of the country. It is a major landmark and a place where you can see the spiritual life of Vientiane firsthand, not just the historical sites.

How long does the whole tour take and what time does it end?

The tour runs between 6 and 8 hours total. Starting at 7:45 or 8:15 am, you finish in the early afternoon or mid-afternoon depending on the pace and the stops. Your guide brings you back to your hotel at the end.

Is lunch included, and what kind of food is it?

Yes, lunch is included. It is an authentic Lao meal, cooked in the local style, served as a sit-down meal during the tour.

What is the difference between booking with a tuk tuk and booking with a car?

Both options include the same guide, stops, lunch and itinerary. The tuk tuk is open-air and gives you a more direct feel of the city. The car is enclosed and works better if you have luggage or prefer shelter from the heat. Choose based on your comfort and what you're traveling with.
