The experience
What's the best way to see both the Arboretum and the museum in one morning without arranging your own transport?
The day starts with pickup at your hotel at 8am and a drive to the Nairobi Arboretum, a dense forest space founded by Mr. Batiscombe in 1907 and now managed by Kenya's Ministry of Forestry. You walk the trails on your own pace, passing over 350 indigenous and exotic plant species, most of them labeled, and watching for birds. More than 100 species have been recorded here. The forest also draws butterflies, and there's time to rest and have optional snacks before moving on.
After the Arboretum, you head to the Nairobi National Museum, the flagship venue for Kenya's National Museums. The museum is built around four distinct themes: Culture, Nature, History and Contemporary Art. The compound also holds the Snake Park and Botanical Gardens, plus an auditorium that hosts concerts and film screenings. Around 1pm you'll stop at a local restaurant if you want lunch (optional), then return to your hotel. The whole tour runs about five hours.
Your guide drives and narrates throughout, and you get a bottle of water and a T-shirt. Entrance fees to the Arboretum and museum, as well as any meals or Snake Park entry, are paid separately on the day.
