The experience
The workshop begins near Minato Mirai station, where you'll start exploring geometric compositions in the historic docks before moving into the Nihonodori area. Your guide walks you through how to see the shapes and patterns that make up the urban landscape, teaching you to frame them in black and white. The focus is on training your eye to recognize the interplay of light and shadow that transforms ordinary architecture into compelling photographs.
From the docks, the group heads to Zounohana park, where you'll practice capturing the geometric patterns that define the space. Props like an umbrella are provided to add visual interest and depth to your compositions. The workshop then concludes at Osanbashi pier, where the panoramic view offers a final canvas to apply what you've learned. By the time you reach the pier, you'll have moved through three distinct settings, each one reinforcing the principles of monochrome photography and compositional geometry.
Public transportation runs near the starting point, so you can reach Minato Mirai station easily. The guide leads the workshop in English or Japanese, and the pace is designed for all fitness levels. There's no requirement to be an experienced photographer to join.
