The experience
The day starts at Hakata Station and moves to Yokamon Ichigo, a strawberry farm in Ukiha City that grows 12 different varieties, including the premium Amaou. You pick the fruit yourself, taste as you go, and compare the sweetness and flavor of each type: a hands-on way to understand why Japanese strawberries command their reputation. The farm operates from mid-December through early May, so the season determines what you'll find ripe.
After picking, the group travels to Kobo Yumezaiku for the dyeing workshop. This is where you work with natural plant-based dyes to color your own piece, typically a handkerchief, using sakura (cherry blossom) extract. A local artisan guides you through the centuries-old technique, showing how white fabric transforms into vibrant color as you apply the dye. If sakura dyeing cannot be arranged that day, you'll do indigo dyeing instead at Ikeda Kasuri Kobo, a workshop in Chikugo City that has practiced the same indigo-and-weaving tradition for over 200 years.
The itinerary includes stops at Sanren Suisha no Sato Asakura, a village of traditional watermills serving local produce, and Tofu Workshop Nukumori Batake in Asakura City, where you have time to buy lunch (not included in the tour price). The full day is nine hours from pickup to drop-off at Hakata Station. You'll travel with other guests in an air-conditioned vehicle. The group requires a minimum of 15 participants to depart, and the operator will email you seven days before if that number is not met.
