Step-by-step itinerary
Strawberry picking and local sightseeing
- Pick strawberries at Yamada Bee Farm
- Visit Katsuyama historic district
- Enjoy freshwater fish lunch in Kagamino Town
- Relax at Yubara Onsen open-air bath
The experience
The tour starts at Okayama Station and heads to Yamada Bee Farm, where you pick five varieties of strawberries in one of Okayama Prefecture's largest greenhouses. The picking itself takes up a solid part of the morning. You get to compare the flavors and ripeness across the varieties, and from late July through August the farm also grows pesticide-free blueberries if that's the season. Afterward, you move to Kagamino Town for a freshwater fish lunch, a local specialty that sits differently than what you'd find in the city.
The centerpiece is Sunayu, the open-air bath at Yubara Onsen. The name comes from hot spring water bubbling up through the riverbed sand, surrounded by rocks and open 24 hours as a mixed-gender soak. The Japan Spa Association ranked it the "Yokozuna of the West" in their open-air bath survey. A recognition that carries weight in the onsen world. You'll spend time here before the tour moves on to Katsuyama, a post town on the old Izumo Highway with white-walled storehouses and lattice-windowed merchant houses still standing. It was the first area in Okayama Prefecture designated as a townscape preservation district, so the streets themselves are the draw.
The tour is conducted in Mandarin by a live guide and runs 8 hours total. Transport is by bus from Okayama Station, and bottled water comes with you. The minimum group size is 10 participants, which means you'll travel with fellow travelers rather than alone. The tour requires at least 10 bookings to operate. If that threshold isn't met a month before your date, it cancels and you get a full refund. Arrive 15 minutes early at Okayama Station. The bus departs on schedule and won't hold for late arrivals.

What is Sunayu like compared to an indoor hot spring bath?
Sunayu is an open-air bath where hot spring water bubbles up through the riverbed sand and is surrounded by rocks, creating a different experience from an enclosed onsen. It's open 24 hours and operates as a mixed-gender bath, and the Japan Spa Association ranked it the "Yokozuna of the West" among open-air baths.
How much walking is involved in this tour?
The tour involves a lot of walking across the four stops: the farm, the onsen, Kagamino Town and Katsuyama. If you have difficulty walking, the operator advises against booking this tour.
What happens if fewer than 10 people book the tour?
The tour requires a minimum of 10 participants to operate. If that number isn't reached by one month before your scheduled date, the tour cancels and you receive a full refund.
Is the guide available in languages other than Mandarin?
The tour is conducted in Mandarin with a live guide. If you require a different language, you'll need to check availability with the operator directly.
