The experience
Korakuen Garden is the anchor: ranked among Japan's top three landscape gardens, it sits just across the Asahi River from Okayama Castle, the black "crow castle" rebuilt in 1966 after wartime destruction. The garden was commissioned in 1687 as a retreat for the local feudal lord and still holds that sense of deliberate calm, with cherry blossoms in spring and maple color in autumn. The castle's original moon-viewing turret from 1620 survived the war and stands as a reminder of what came before the reconstruction.
Beyond the central pair, you build the rest of the day around what draws you. The Kibi Plain spreads out as rural flatland dotted with shrines, temples and farmhouses: the heart of a fourth-century kingdom whose power once rivaled the Yamato Clan. Handayama Botanical Garden holds a thousand cherry trees on a hillside overlooking the city, far less crowded than the main garden even at peak bloom. The Nishigawa Canal Park traces a quieter route through town, lined with cherry trees and benches. Your guide knows the timing and the routes. You choose which stops fit the day you want.
The tour runs six hours on foot, meeting your guide in a designated area within Okayama itself. The guide carries entry fees for the attractions you select, but you cover transportation between stops and any meals. All surfaces are wheelchair accessible, and the pace suits all fitness levels.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 11 years): free; Infant (under 6): free.
What is Korakuen Garden like compared to other famous gardens in Japan?
Korakuen ranks as one of Japan's three best landscape gardens, alongside Kanazawa's Kenrokuen and Mito's Kairakuen. Built in 1687, it was designed as a place of entertainment and hospitality for the ruling family, and it sits directly beside Okayama Castle, which frames the garden as "borrowed scenery" from across the river.
Can I see Okayama Castle during the tour?
Yes. Okayama Castle stands just across the Asahi River from Korakuen Garden and is one of the sites you can choose for your customized itinerary. The castle's distinctive black exterior earned it the name "crow castle". The original structure was destroyed in World War 2, but a reconstruction was completed in 1966.
How do I get between the different stops on the tour?
You walk between stops within Okayama. The guide meets you on foot in a designated area of the city center and leads the tour from there. Transportation fees between attractions are not included in the tour price, so you'll arrange and pay for any taxis, buses or trains separately.
What happens if I want to visit sites the guide hasn't mentioned?
The guide's entry fees are covered only for the sites listed under "What to Expect": Korakuen Garden, Okayama Castle, the Kibi Plain, Handayama Botanical Garden and Nishigawa Canal Park. If you want to visit other attractions, you can arrange that with your guide, but you'll cover the entrance fees yourself.
