The experience
You start from your Sapporo hotel or accommodation in the morning, picked up by your driver who speaks basic English and will use a translator app if needed. The route heads west through Nakayama Pass, where you stop for twenty minutes to eat fried potatoes and stretch. From there it's another forty minutes to Fukidashi Park, a natural spring fed by Mount Yotei. Locals and tourists come here to fill bottles with the water, so bring a plastic bottle if you want to take some with you.
Lunch happens at the oyster village in Suto, a traditional seafood hut where you order all-you-can-eat oysters and seasonal fish. This is the meal you pay for separately: the tour covers the vehicle and the guide, not the food bill. The oysters here are well-known in the region, and the old-fashioned atmosphere is part of why people come. After lunch you drive another hour to Cape Kamui, a headland that juts into the sea. The name comes from the Ainu word for god, and the cape was historically forbidden to women. A walking trail runs fifteen to twenty minutes each way to the tip, where you can see the Shakotan Blue waters and the cliffs below. The drive back to Sapporo takes roughly two and a half hours, arriving around six in the evening.
The vehicle is air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible. If you're traveling with infants, specialized seats are available, and small children can ride in a pram or stroller. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy.

Is this one for you?Choose the Hiace if you're traveling with a larger group or need extra luggage space for up to eight people. The Alphard suits smaller groups of up to five who prefer a more compact vehicle. Both options give you the same itinerary and guide. The difference is just the size of the car and how many passengers fit comfortably.
