The experience

Two and a half hours means you start at the Sapporo TV Tower and head straight into Nijo Market, where scallops, oysters, and Hokkaido shellfish are prepared in front of you. You taste them fresh and learn how the cold northern waters shape what ends up on your plate. The guide is a certified local who speaks English and knows why each stop matters.

From there you walk to Kani Sushi Kato, a sushi restaurant where the ingredients you just saw get transformed into eight pieces of nigiri at the counter. You sit and watch the rice and fish come together, then eat. After that comes Tanukikoji Shopping Street, a covered arcade where you stop at Sato Suisan to try jaga butter: Hokkaido's famous potato dish, rich and simple. The final stop is Machimura Farm near Odori Park, where you finish with soft-serve ice cream or dairy sweets made from fresh local milk.
