- Visit Honmaru Palace Shogun rooms
- Take photos with castle tower
- Stop by souvenir shop
- Walk through Kinshachi Yokocho food street
The experience
You start at Nagoya Castle itself, one of Japan's three great castles. The guide leads you past the moat and stone walls into the grounds, then through the garden before heading into the Honmaru Palace: the main structure and a masterpiece of early modern castle architecture. Inside, you see the luxurious rooms where the Shogun stayed, and after photos with the massive castle tower, you can browse the souvenir shop. If timing works out, samurai and ninja performers sometimes appear on the grounds.
From the castle, the route moves into Kinshachi Yokocho, a narrow street lined with restaurants and food stalls that have served local Nagoya cuisine since the castle town era. Your guide knows the neighborhood and will point out their favorite dishes. This is where you get a real sense of what people in Nagoya actually eat, not what tourists are told to try. You're free to stop and order, though meals are on your own.
