The guide speaks English or Spanish and builds the narrative around what actually happened in these rooms and courtyards, not around what films have made famous.

Nijo Castle opens with its defensive architecture and the "nightingale floors" designed to squeak under an intruder's weight. The Imperial Palace shows the gardens, gates and buildings where emperors lived and ruled for over a thousand years. Nishiki Market (five blocks of more than a hundred shops) reveals what fed the court and how trade moved through the city. Fushimi Inari closes the day with thousands of red torii gates winding up the sacred mountain, small shrines tucked into the forest, and fox statues (kitsune) that represent Inari, the Shinto deity of prosperity. The guide explains the spiritual layer underneath, so the landscape reads as something more than a photo location.
