The Experience
The first thing I noticed was the soft clink of glasses and the faint scent of tatami mats as we stepped into the teahouse. It’s tucked away on a narrow street—easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Our guide, Yuki, greeted us with a quick bow and led us inside, where two young geisha were already waiting, dressed in bright kimono with their hair perfectly styled. The whole place felt both old and somehow easygoing, not stiff like I’d expected.
We sat around a low table, drinks menu in hand—plenty of sake options, but also beer and even plum wine if you wanted something sweet. Drinks weren’t included, but honestly, they were pretty reasonable. The geisha chatted with us about everything from their training to what music they liked (one admitted she listens to J-pop on her days off). Someone asked about their makeup routine, and they laughed, showing us the brushes they use. Photos were totally fine—just ask first. If you end up being the only guest that night, there’s a chance to reschedule so you can share the experience with others.
What’s included
Your evening includes meeting authentic geisha at a traditional teahouse, time to chat and ask questions, plus photo opportunities together. Drinks are extra but affordable.
